We made baskets on Saturday Jill taught the class....unfortunately I missed taking pic's of the Dr. Seuss basket and Joyce's basket. I was surprised at how easy they were to make. If you look on the group pic you can see the Dr. Seuss basket in the background. Carol pre embroidried the chicken basket. The Halloween basket was appliqued by Jill and a sample basket for the class to look at..<br />

This is a old post from October that I forgot to update....so it was a draft.Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-39353652100000270882013-01-21T14:05:00.001-06:002013-01-21T14:15:01.570-06:00Disappearing Nine Patch<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In this quilt the fabric selection had to be very specific. It had to please both husband and wife, my nephew and his wife. Some husbands don't care what quilt is on their bed but he does which is great.<br />
<br />
I had them select the pattern they wanted then they looked at all of my quilts and told me which fabrics they liked.<br />
<br />
I then went to my stash and selected the fabrics I thought would work with each of their tastes. It took me a year with having to move three time in less than 12 months and all the other things that happened last year.<br />
<br />
This picture was sent to me from their home...I think it looks great on their bed don't you ?Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-30879100622726880282012-01-27T10:44:00.001-06:002012-01-27T10:44:06.910-06:00Double Hour Glass Batik on PointWell the top is finished and ready to go to the quilter. Instead of just doing a lap size my Sister recommended that I make it a little bigger so it would fit a twin size bed with a 14 inch drop.<br />
<br />
The measurements for this scrappy quilt are 67 x 92.<br />
<br />

He came to meet the Aunt's at one of our Sisters Quilting weekends. I offered to teach him to sew and he jumped right in. He made a potholder quite quickly using this same pattern and also with batiks.<br />
<br />
He spent 2 years in Africa so he was very attracted to the bright batiks. He chose all his own fabric and started sewing away on my machine.<br />
<br />
Now he is married to my neice and I am so glad, he is a great guy.<br />
<br />
Now I need to finish this quilt since I am going to be teaching a class at the LQS on how to make this quilt.<br />
<br />
I have been quilting all weekend to try to finish it but as of now it is NOT finished...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XTSiov1HCpM/Tx4cFyuANrI/AAAAAAAAAkY/NOV4mlfSYYQ/s1600/Trashy+blocks+and+Tube+Batiks+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XTSiov1HCpM/Tx4cFyuANrI/AAAAAAAAAkY/NOV4mlfSYYQ/s320/Trashy+blocks+and+Tube+Batiks+001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>but here is a sneak peak<br />
<br />
I plan to add piano key borders around the whole quilt.<br />
<br />
When its finished it will be a Twin or a Large Lap quiltAdelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-78798766630245068442012-01-11T19:38:00.001-06:002012-01-11T19:39:53.049-06:00Kyla's QuiltSo while making Scott and Becky's pineapple quilt I decided since they have two autistic kids who might not understand why they don't get a quilt....well I'm now making a quilt for all 3 of their girls.<br />
<br />
Kyla is a girly girl. and you can see in these pic's getting muddy wasn't quite her idea of fun...she is the youngest. But she did finally walk in the mud with Katie convincing her.<br />

I needed to make sure this quilt would stand up to her abuse. She is active and autistic and is very hard on things. I practiced some free motion quilting. I would watch a video and quilted on one of the squares then I would get frustrated because it wasn't perfect then....stiple or loop for a while. Then I'd watch another video and try again. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Leah Day's blog is where I watched the video's</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This quilt was made for a special little nephew Drew. I finished this quilt in early 2011 but couldn't bear letting go of it for a few months. It has become one of my favorite quilts ever. Kathy Wolfe quilted it for me. I did tell her I thought a fish bowl with a fish would be cool but never thought she would be able to do it much less exceed my expectations. Check out the elephant and the two fish....and I thought her thread choice was perfect for both the front and back. Thanks Kathy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I have assisted on a pillow before I just quilted the front and my sister put the rest together to match her daughters wedding quilt that we also made together.<br />
<br />
One of my friends brought thispattern to our Sisters Quilting Weekend and I wanted to make one too. Hers was made using wool and it was a kit. I just worked with some scraps and came up with this.<br />

Well while recovering from my surgery I am staying at a neices house. Lots of family has been visiting and Shyla wanted to make a quilt for her doll.<br />
I had her pick out the fabric....which was already cut into scrappy strips and away we went. This particular neice is a thumb sucker....and they are trying to get her to stop. Well I told her she could sit on my lap and help if she didn't suck her thumb..... I gave all of the appropriate lectures of warning.....but ....that needle went into her finger so FAST ! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-psxYUhxnmtA/ThDeU8O3kPI/AAAAAAAAAdU/dlexCiHQ0SY/s1600/Shyla+s+Doll+Quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" i$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-psxYUhxnmtA/ThDeU8O3kPI/AAAAAAAAAdU/dlexCiHQ0SY/s320/Shyla+s+Doll+Quilt.JPG" width="240px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">If I had just let her suck her thumb her hand wouldn't have been any where near the needle....Darn it !</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-40dJx747jb4/ThDefweyB2I/AAAAAAAAAdY/FvSkklY1qCE/s1600/Shyla+s+Doll+Quilt+Front.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240px" i$="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-40dJx747jb4/ThDefweyB2I/AAAAAAAAAdY/FvSkklY1qCE/s320/Shyla+s+Doll+Quilt+Front.JPG" width="320px" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RKBVGAWbY1Q/ThDemsYagUI/AAAAAAAAAdc/tVOvCUSXPLc/s1600/Shyla+s+Doll+Quilt+Back.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" i$="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RKBVGAWbY1Q/ThDemsYagUI/AAAAAAAAAdc/tVOvCUSXPLc/s320/Shyla+s+Doll+Quilt+Back.JPG" width="240px" /></a></div>Needless to say the Grand Aunt Guilt sunk in rather quickly....and what was going to be a small doll quilt is now a "huge" doll quilt. But I hope she will use it for more than a doll quilt which I'm sure she will. It measures 36 X 40. I think she did pretty good picking out the fabric.....What do you think?Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-66015146804898378262011-06-21T20:13:00.000-05:002011-06-21T20:13:11.244-05:00Baby Quilt<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SqodppD5xLc/TgFBYHQB5tI/AAAAAAAAAc8/qSKWG_i-0Ck/s1600/Yvette%2527s+Quilt+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240px" i$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SqodppD5xLc/TgFBYHQB5tI/AAAAAAAAAc8/qSKWG_i-0Ck/s320/Yvette%2527s+Quilt+004.JPG" width="320px" /></a></div><br />

It was very well attended 28- 30 depending on the day. Met some old friends and made some new friends. The G-Town Girls were a good group to have sitting next to my table. We all kept each other a laughing....who knew quilting was soooo much fun ! </div><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I signed up for 3 classes prior to the retreat and ended up taking 4 classes. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last Year I made Checker boards out of wood that were really cool ! </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now that I'm a quilter so I wanted to do checkerboards out of fabric.</span><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/TKs662fN7QI/AAAAAAAAAYU/kQW_XtmNIpA/s1600/Checkerboards+012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" px="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/TKs662fN7QI/AAAAAAAAAYU/kQW_XtmNIpA/s320/Checkerboards+012.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> This one is a very scrappy and very cute checkerboard. The labels were attached later due to a " Name that Checkerboard" contest. We needed to conceal the winning names for the big announcement and prizes. I tried to make each label unique either with a scrappy border around the label or something. Next time I will make the labels a little smaller...they just seemed too big for the board.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/TKs7OwtWsDI/AAAAAAAAAYY/5pwsghGiwQ4/s1600/Checkerboards+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" px="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/TKs7OwtWsDI/AAAAAAAAAYY/5pwsghGiwQ4/s320/Checkerboards+014.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">This was the most girly of the Checkerboards. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Each checkerboard comes with its own coordinated bag to hold the checkers in.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/TKs7isTyPpI/AAAAAAAAAYc/rbtXXs0FwkI/s1600/Checkerboards+016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" px="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/TKs7isTyPpI/AAAAAAAAAYc/rbtXXs0FwkI/s320/Checkerboards+016.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

My Dad's health had been deteriorating for the last few years so I had made a conscious effort to visit him frequently over the last year. I started those trips around this time last year using quilting as a excuse to go home.<br /><br />In January I went home again to visit for their anniversary and the signs were clear to me ......I knew we were getting close to the end of his journey here on earth. I believe that trip was when I did my disappearing nine patch.<br /><br />In March when I went for another visit & to quilt ...he was very sick my trip extended from 1 week to 3 weeks....I quilted in a rush a "quilt for my Dad"...I used scraps given to me in plaids that a friend had given me and my sister Nancy gave me the backing and I quilted him "BLOCKS OF LOVE" ...It is definately not my best work but I will REALLY remember this quilt and the many emotions of that trip......I didn't get to quilt anything that I had planned to quilt on that trip.......but a day or so before I left I threw together another unplanned quilt .." Rainy Days and Mondays"....this will also be a quilt long remembered and full of emotions for me.<br /><br />When I left Arizona in April I knew I would be moving home to care for Dad soon...and that happened in a week or two. I packed up and left Texas within a couple of weeks and started taking care of Dad.<br /><br />He was a great patient and very easy to care for......he died on May 31st Memorial Day at 5:30 while I was by his side.<br /><br />I took a break from quilting....still ordered lots of fabric but just couldn't get out of the funk I was in.....Well I am out of that funk and back to quilting....<br /><br />I will post the pic's of the quilts named in this very long blog and then add what I have done since.<br /><br />Thanks for reading.Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-79669581111066695892010-02-01T22:43:00.005-06:002010-02-01T23:28:07.530-06:00Oh My Dog Baby Quilt<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2e2ltAnQPI/AAAAAAAAAVM/Zk4lSkgLTFw/s1600-h/Catalina%27s+Oh+My+Dog+Quilt.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 314px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433512234299375858" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2e2ltAnQPI/AAAAAAAAAVM/Zk4lSkgLTFw/s320/Catalina%27s+Oh+My+Dog+Quilt.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2e1XThloPI/AAAAAAAAAVE/xeT3JHBDrrI/s1600-h/Catalina+Back+of+Quilt.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433510887428563186" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2e1XThloPI/AAAAAAAAAVE/xeT3JHBDrrI/s320/Catalina+Back+of+Quilt.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2ez-l5yRwI/AAAAAAAAAU8/_b9IxsQKS_M/s1600-h/Catalina+close+up+quilting.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433509363353536258" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2ez-l5yRwI/AAAAAAAAAU8/_b9IxsQKS_M/s320/Catalina+close+up+quilting.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2eyffY0V1I/AAAAAAAAAU0/MYkN9vdGATs/s1600-h/Catalina+Cornerstone.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433507729517074258" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2eyffY0V1I/AAAAAAAAAU0/MYkN9vdGATs/s320/Catalina+Cornerstone.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2ew0RwiTQI/AAAAAAAAAUs/jcDXc1i7_n0/s1600-h/Catalina+Label.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433505887612456194" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S2ew0RwiTQI/AAAAAAAAAUs/jcDXc1i7_n0/s320/Catalina+Label.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>This is a quilt I made for my neice's baby while she was still pregnant.....It was cool because she was there while I was making it but didn't know it was for her daughter....My first quilts I made were Layer cakes or rag quilts....so this one was the first time using this particular pattern.</div><div></div><div>I think the pink thread Merlene (Nelda's Quilt Shop) picked really stands out....I also had her pick the quilting design.</div><br /><br /><div>I love the labels that Nelda at Nelda's quilt shop makes for my quilts.</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-61608493285865553522010-01-26T00:35:00.004-06:002010-01-28T22:19:04.557-06:00Chocolate Mint Disappearing Nine (Scraps)<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S16OVJsE8DI/AAAAAAAAAUk/Orp_abS992U/s1600-h/326.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430934694684586034" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S16OVJsE8DI/AAAAAAAAAUk/Orp_abS992U/s320/326.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This is my first disappearing nine patch quilt ! My sponsor thought it would be a great one to utilize my scraps. It is at the quilter now and I can't wait to see the finished product.<br /><br />It is being quilted by Merlene at Nelda's Quilt Shop and she has done such great work with my other quilts. This quilt I will keep for myself and will match my current surroundings very well.<br /><br />I am so excited.Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9052499101871642242.post-77445297086047244442010-01-26T00:30:00.000-06:002010-01-26T00:33:35.939-06:00Secondary Pattern<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S16MnpnrLvI/AAAAAAAAAUU/5qu92h_1FL4/s1600-h/Secondary+Pattern.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DvuBP_39MlM/S16MnpnrLvI/AAAAAAAAAUU/5qu92h_1FL4/s320/Secondary+Pattern.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430932813470445298" /></a>Adelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07414138130790195660noreply@blogger.com0
