Dr. Seuss Aprons and Chef Hats

Don't you just love these Dr. Seuss Chef Hats and Aprons !!!
I looked around for tutorials and found this great tutorial by Joanna Armour you can find it here if you would like to make some Chef Hats and  Aprons of your own. ( www.stardustshoes.blogspot.com)
This one is for my nephew and the others are for his boys. They cook together as a family quite often so I thought it was the perfect gift. All of the fabrics you see on the aprons are funky Dr. Seuss pockets.

Look what I made !

This is my first pillow start to finish. I have assisted on a pillow before I just quilted the front and my sister put the rest together to match her daughters wedding quilt that we also made together.

One of my friends brought thispattern to our Sisters Quilting Weekend and I wanted to make one too. Hers was made using wool and it was a kit. I just worked with some scraps and came up with this.

I love it !   What do you think???

Shyla's Doll Quilt

When you are a Grand Aunt like I am you want to spoil these kiddo's rotten and let them do fun things.  Well while recovering from my surgery I am staying at a neices house. Lots of family has been visiting and Shyla wanted to make a quilt for her doll.
I had her pick out the fabric....which was already cut into scrappy strips and away we went. This particular neice is a thumb sucker....and they are trying to get her to stop. Well I told her she could sit on my lap and help if she didn't suck her thumb..... I gave all of the appropriate lectures of warning.....but ....that needle went into her finger so FAST !

If I had just let her suck her thumb her hand wouldn't have been any where near the needle....Darn it !

Needless to say the Grand Aunt Guilt sunk in rather quickly....and what was going to be a small doll quilt is now a "huge" doll quilt. But I hope she will use it for more than a doll quilt which I'm sure she will. It measures 36 X 40. I think she did pretty good picking out the fabric.....What do you think?

My FIRST commisioned quilt !

Did that sound fancy....I'm really not some elite quilter and got this fantastic commission for a quilt. Nope I'm just me....and a childhood friend asked me to make it for her 3 year old grandson....I was nervous and also excited to get started. So I posted the beginning of this quilt a while back in September and wanted to show you the finished product.
It is my first I - SPY quilt and my first commisioned quilt !!!  YIKES !

If you know me you know my backs are never boring....
My Sister says she almost always likes the backs better than the fronts.
This is a Wonky Back I was trying to make it look like WONKY PIPES !
I used the Dinosaur uproar and Leapin Lizards collections for the back
I just love the binding I believe it is from the Dinosaur Uproar line

Checker Boards

For our Family Reunion we have a auction each year to raise funds to pay for the next
 Family Reunion.

Last Year I made Checker boards out of wood that were really cool !
Now that I'm a quilter so I wanted to do checkerboards out of fabric.

This one is a very scrappy and very cute checkerboard. The labels were attached later due to a " Name that Checkerboard" contest. We needed to conceal the winning names for the big announcement and prizes. I tried to make each label unique either with a scrappy border around the label or something. Next time I will make the labels a little smaller...they just seemed too big for the board.
This was the most girly of the Checkerboards.
Each checkerboard comes with its own coordinated bag to hold  the checkers in.

.I love the fabrics in this one !
I hand painted each wooden car wheel checker...this was a very long project from start to finish
The sock monkey checker board was made from the 5 Funky Monkeys Line by Erin Michael for Moda You can pick some up here HERE ! The sock monkey and Boy Scout boards I added Tic Tac Toe to the back of the board/quilt

The Sock Monkey was definately a favorite and brought the most money of the checkerboards !!!  YEAH !
The Scout Quilt was also a Huge favorite since I am from a big scouting family.
The Scout Quilt was also made mostly from the Boy Scouts of America fabric line by Robert Kaufman.

Here they are all packaged for the ride up to the Reunion !
Don't they look cool all bundled up !
As usual the fabric I purchased from the wonderful Fat Quarter Shop !
