Baskets !

We made baskets on Saturday Jill taught the class....unfortunately I missed taking pic's of the Dr. Seuss basket and Joyce's basket. I was surprised at how easy they were to make. If you look on the group pic you can see the Dr. Seuss basket in the background. Carol pre embroidried the chicken basket. The Halloween basket was appliqued by Jill and a sample basket for the class to look at..

This is a old post from October that I forgot to update....so it was a draft.

Disappearing Nine Patch

In this quilt the fabric selection had to be very specific. It had to please both husband and wife, my nephew and his wife. Some husbands don't care what quilt is on their bed but he does which is great.

I had them select the pattern they wanted then they looked at all of my quilts and told me which fabrics they liked.

I then went to my stash and selected the fabrics I thought would work with each of their tastes. It took me a year with having to move three time in less than 12 months and all the other things that happened last year.

This picture was sent to me from their home...I think it looks great on their bed don't you ?

Double Hour Glass Batik on Point

Well the top is finished and ready to go to the quilter. Instead of just doing a lap size my Sister recommended that I make it a little bigger so it would fit a twin size bed with a 14 inch drop.

The measurements for this scrappy quilt are 67 x 92.

I am very happy with how it turned out.

New /Old Project

I started this quilt when I met my neices boyfriend (now Husband) last year some time. He came to meet the Aunt's at one of our Sisters Quilting weekends. I offered to teach him to sew and he jumped right in. He made a potholder quite quickly using this same pattern and also with batiks.

He spent 2 years in Africa so he was very attracted to the bright batiks. He chose all his own fabric and started sewing away on my machine.

Now he is married to my neice and I am so glad, he is a great guy.

Now I need to finish this quilt since I am going to be teaching a class at the LQS on how to make this quilt.

I have been quilting all weekend to try to finish it but as of now it is NOT finished...

but here is a sneak peak

I plan to add piano key borders around the whole quilt.

When its finished it will be a Twin or a Large Lap quilt

Kyla's Quilt

So while making Scott and Becky's pineapple quilt I decided since they have two autistic kids who might not understand why they don't get a quilt....well I'm now making a quilt for all 3 of their girls.

Kyla is a girly girl. and you can see in these pic's getting muddy wasn't quite her idea of fun...she is the youngest. But she did finally walk in the mud with Katie convincing her.

I hope she loves this quilt....she loves all things girly and this is a very girly quilt it measures 40 x 51

A Quilt for Narissa

I just finished this quilt for Narissa one of my nephew's daughters. I needed to make sure this quilt would stand up to her abuse. She is active and autistic and is very hard on things. I practiced some free motion quilting. I would watch a video and quilted on one of the squares then I would get frustrated because it wasn't perfect then....stiple or loop for a while. Then I'd watch another video and try again.
Leah Day's blog is where I watched the video's

I love the binding. I also picked a 3 straight stitch  stitch for the first time around,
then did a blanket stitch the 2nd time around.
I hope that it survives Narissa and keeps her warm and I hope she stacks all of her animals on it.

Dr Seuss Quilt

This quilt was made for a special little nephew Drew.  I finished this quilt in early 2011 but couldn't bear letting go of it for a few months. It has become one of my favorite quilts ever. Kathy Wolfe quilted it for me. I did tell her I thought a fish bowl with a fish would be cool but never thought she would be able to do it much less exceed my expectations. Check out the elephant and the two fish....and I thought her thread choice was perfect for both the front and back.  Thanks Kathy.

This fabric line always looks awesome even with just simple strips for the back.

Meet Drew sportin his new Dr. Seuss Chef hat helping his
Aunt Adele make eat Christmas cookies
on her B'day !

I don't remember the dimensions but its a lap size quilt.

Dr. Seuss Aprons and Chef Hats

Don't you just love these Dr. Seuss Chef Hats and Aprons !!!
I looked around for tutorials and found this great tutorial by Joanna Armour you can find it here if you would like to make some Chef Hats and  Aprons of your own. ( www.stardustshoes.blogspot.com)
This one is for my nephew and the others are for his boys. They cook together as a family quite often so I thought it was the perfect gift. All of the fabrics you see on the aprons are funky Dr. Seuss pockets.

Look what I made !

This is my first pillow start to finish. I have assisted on a pillow before I just quilted the front and my sister put the rest together to match her daughters wedding quilt that we also made together.

One of my friends brought thispattern to our Sisters Quilting Weekend and I wanted to make one too. Hers was made using wool and it was a kit. I just worked with some scraps and came up with this.

I love it !   What do you think???

Shyla's Doll Quilt

When you are a Grand Aunt like I am you want to spoil these kiddo's rotten and let them do fun things.  Well while recovering from my surgery I am staying at a neices house. Lots of family has been visiting and Shyla wanted to make a quilt for her doll.
I had her pick out the fabric....which was already cut into scrappy strips and away we went. This particular neice is a thumb sucker....and they are trying to get her to stop. Well I told her she could sit on my lap and help if she didn't suck her thumb..... I gave all of the appropriate lectures of warning.....but ....that needle went into her finger so FAST !

If I had just let her suck her thumb her hand wouldn't have been any where near the needle....Darn it !

Needless to say the Grand Aunt Guilt sunk in rather quickly....and what was going to be a small doll quilt is now a "huge" doll quilt. But I hope she will use it for more than a doll quilt which I'm sure she will. It measures 36 X 40. I think she did pretty good picking out the fabric.....What do you think?

My FIRST commisioned quilt !

Did that sound fancy....I'm really not some elite quilter and got this fantastic commission for a quilt. Nope I'm just me....and a childhood friend asked me to make it for her 3 year old grandson....I was nervous and also excited to get started. So I posted the beginning of this quilt a while back in September and wanted to show you the finished product.
It is my first I - SPY quilt and my first commisioned quilt !!!  YIKES !

If you know me you know my backs are never boring....
My Sister says she almost always likes the backs better than the fronts.
This is a Wonky Back I was trying to make it look like WONKY PIPES !
I used the Dinosaur uproar and Leapin Lizards collections for the back
I just love the binding I believe it is from the Dinosaur Uproar line
